2000 Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG F1 Limited Edition

Description

Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG ‘F1 Limited Edition’ is a rare special model, with only 55 units produced to celebrate the safety car used in the 1999–2000 Formula 1 World Championship seasons. This 35th example is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over a Black Designo leather interior with carbon fibre trim and was delivered on 18 October 2000. It is powered by a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 360 horsepower, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The highlight of this edition is its world-first ceramic braking system for a road-legal production car, featuring fibre-reinforced ceramic discs with eight-piston Brembo callipers. Showing 58,700 km and most recently maintained by Mercedes-Benz Service Center of Riyadh, it remains a highly collectible flagship coupe inspired by Formula 1 heritage.

History

The Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG ‘F1 Limited Edition’ was built to celebrate Mercedes-Benz’s role as the official Safety Car supplier for the **Formula One World Championship** during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. At that time, the C215 CL 55 AMG was used as the F1 Safety Car, driven by Bernd Mayländer, giving the model worldwide exposure. To capitalize on this global visibility and strengthen the connection between AMG road cars and motorsport, Mercedes-Benz produced a strictly limited run of 55 units—symbolically matching the “55” in the model name. It also served as a technological showcase, introducing the world’s first ceramic composite braking system on a road-legal production car, highlighting AMG’s innovation and performance leadership at the start of the 2000s.
